 EU Supports Energy Efficiency Initiatives in Armenian Communities

Nineteen community-based NGOs and media outlets will promote energy efficiency in the communities in five regions of Armenia. The independent Project Review Board selected eleven projects submitted by NGO, media and their coalitions within the framework of “EU4Civil Society: Energy Efficiency in Armenian Communities" (EEAC) project, funded by the European Union Delegation to Armenia and implemented by ASBA Consortium[1].  Total amount of projects’ budgets is 36,149,689 AMD, of which 26,167,567 AMD will be provided by EU Delegation to Armenia, while 9,982,122 AMD will be contributed by local organizations.

The goal of the sub-grants is to support innovative ideas of civil society organizations (CSOs) for the targeted public awareness campaigns to address community energy efficiency issues and promote energy efficiency culture. Civil society organizations and community groups will act to increase awareness among population on energy efficiency methods and practices, mobilize community resources and engage in effective partnership with local municipalities and private companies to address local energy efficiency problems.

Providing targeted information to communities will help them to strengthen local capacities and engage in decision making process affecting their life. During the projects, professional and organizational capacities of NGOs and media will be strengthened to develop new possibilities for citizen participation in grass-root policy making process. The projects also will enable CSOs to effectively engage in action planning to improve energy efficiency and resource management in the municipalities and regions.

Location: Lori, Tavush, Gegharkunik, Kotayk and Ararat regions
